Village Homes – Davis, CA

http://www.villagehomesdavis.org/

Village Homes is a 70-acre subdivision located in Davis, California consisting of 225 homes and 20 apartment units, 23 acres of orchards, vineyards, greenbelts, common areas, and parks.

The development was designed to encourage both a sense of community and the conservation of energy and natural resources. All homes have rooftop solar water heaters that meet 100% of a home's hot water needs in the summer and 50% in the winter. Most residents are living comfortably without air conditioners. The common areas of Village Homes contain a natural drainage system - a network of creek beds, swales, and pond areas that allow rainwater to be absorbed into the ground rather than carried away through storm drains. This helps to store moisture in the soil. The development utilizes xeriscaping, which is the cultivation of drought-tolerant plants to minimize water use.
