Xeriscaping is an approach to waterwise landscaping that takes into account the structure of the garden, types of plants used, soil composition, mulch, and grouping of plants into like-water needs.

Xeriscaping techniques vary by region.  Consider the following seven basic principles before adopting Xeriscaping as a tool for both reduced and efficient water use, there are seven basic principles at play:

  • Planning and Design
  • Soil analysis
  • Practical turf areas
  • Appropriate plant selection
  • Efficient irrigation
  • Use of mulches
  • Appropriate maintenance
