Water conservation is the reduction of water use, loss and/or waste through policies, strategies and activities that encourage sustainable management of water supplies.
Rainwater is relatively clean, free water that falls from the sky as percipitation.
Stormwater runoff is water from rain or melting snow that “runs off” across the land and impermeable surfaces instead of infiltrating into the ground.
Graywater (also spelled greywater, grey water, gray water) is the used water from sinks, showers, tubs, and washing machines which does not contain fecal material. In California, used kitchen sink water is considered “dark gray”.
Blackwater is water contaminated with fecal material, such as the flushwater from flush toilets.
